FAA Probes American Lightning Checks

From the New York Times/Reuters: Federal aviation officials are examining why American Airlines asked mechanics to start skipping some safety checks to detect damage to planes from suspected lightning strikes, the Wall Street Journal said on Friday, citing internal company and agency documents.

The regional Federal Aviation Administration office overseeing the airline is asking questions about the issue, in the first step of a possible formal investigation, the report said, citing people familiar with the details.

Ameco Beijing DMDOR Certified

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has approved Ameco Beijing to function as a designated modification design organization representative (DMDOR). With the authorization, the company can conduct some airworthiness approvals under a limited scope, such as design data approval for repairs beyond specifications and designs for minor modifications. Ameco becomes the first DMDOR-authorized organization in the Chinese aviation industry, according to the company.
